Past the Trestles

I always try to look the direction that no one else looks-
To admire what no one notices,
Because any and every part of this world,
That we haven’t yet ruined,
Can be admired,
So as you look to the left on the Pacific Coast Highway,
Out at the waves,
I will first look east,
Past the beautiful (because it’s fierce) green on the side of the highway,
that is mistaken for weeds,
Past the trestles,
Past the mountains,
Past the clouds;

First, I see parts of the world
That are untouched,
Before turning to admire,
The powerful waves
That we think we can tame;
